Great product. Wrap it in a towel and then wrap it around your knee. Used these for several years.
Excellent ice pack to cool my new replaced knee joint after my Physical Therapy working it (bends, short walks, etc)I got several of these – they lay flat in freezer (dont take up much room), and they wrap around the knee to provide more consistent cooling (be sure to wrap it in something like a hand towel so its not laying directly on the skin). Then I use elastic athletic wrap to hold it in place (that stretchy brown wrap).Worked great, I was able to exercise knee with PT and with a walker, then ice it for half hour and pop back in freezer several times a day, and didnt need or use any pain pills (just slightly stronger Tylenol, and Aleve). After 3 days, I switched from using a walker to walking on my treadmill, so I could practice a proper stride and set a consistent pace and distance – a mile at 1.5 mph. After just 18 days, I was outside, walking a mile with no support, no crutch, no cane, just out walking pretty normal. If youre looking at knee replacement, how bad or good it is depends on how committed you are to doing the PT. Most important is the “heel slide”, laying on back, slide your heel, bending the knee up as much as you can ten times, holding it at peek bend for 10 seconds. Then again, but this time with a strap around your foot to pull it, trying to relax the knee muscles so just the strap is pulling it up Try to get to where it hurts a little but is not really painful. Dont worry, the first day or 2 you might not be able to move it at all, but it soon gets better. Then keeping leg straight, raise the foot about 6 inches up, and hold for 5 seconds, working up to 10 seconds. The PT for going down stairs and getting out of cars is just stand holding back of a chair, and bend the knee / calf as far back as you can, lifting the foot as high as you can. Dont bend the hip, just the knee. The PT folks send me home after just half the sessions cuz I was already at desired goals (bend the knee 120+ degrees, and walking down stairs).Bottom line, if you just had a knee replaced, then you’ve got nowhere to be and nothing else to do, so might as well work on getting better, so do your PT, and dont forget to ice it. Do PT (heel slides etc), and WALK a lot. After reading all the stories about how long it takes to recover from knee replacement, I found one who was out walking after 6 weeks, so that was my goal. I was walking in 18 days. And still doing the PT bends for several more weeks cuz the knee is still healing, so dont let it heal just straight, keep working on max bend. Also used them when I had my hips replaced, which is relatively easy compared to knee. Basically do the PT, ice it, and walk around pretty normally with a cane for 5-6 weeks, then youre done.

Quick injury soother ready and waiting!
Everyone should keep a gel pack or two in their freezer ready for use when someone injures some body part. Or, just keep them in a drawer ready to heat in the microwave to soothe an old ache or pain. These are reusable and are handy for anyone. Keep in mind they do not last forever and after numerous uses, might spring a leak, so treat them nicely and check them over after awhile. When I did lose one, it froze in the freezer and therefore did not make a leaky mess, but upon removing them, you can tell if they’re still intact.

    Life saver when you’re sick
It has really good heat retention but if you use it on your back and lay down expect to replace it every 3 hours ish. You need get 2 at minimum but the quality and confort is really good. I wrapped mine in a towel because it was wayyy too cold for my bare back.

    I will be buying more
A year and a half ago I bought 5 brands of icepacks. I bought them for several different reasons. My room stays about 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the apartment due to my oxygen machine. So problem number 1 is that it was getting way too hot. Problem 2 is that heat aggravates many of my health issues including triggering severe pots flares, which can land me in hospital. In order to avoid that, I need to stay cooler. Problem number 3 I have HEDS with fairly regular subloxations and dislocations. Sometimes the treatment for the subsequent pain is alternating hot and cold, sometimes it’s just cold, depending on where the injury was. All of them need cold at some point and ice therapy is 20-30 minutes. Ice for pots is 30-45 minutes for heart regulation. So my quest became finding icepacks that would last long enough for treatments, withstand chronic use, withstand being in the freezer almost constantly, the weight of my limbs resting on them, and be somewhat comfortable. (To be clear, I do actually have an ICE pack too, like one you shove full of ice and then screw the lid on. You just have to replace the ice when you need to use it again. A little annoying to deal with. But works in a pinch, so long as you have ice handy. One brand didn’t even last a week. It burst in the freezer (it was meant to be only an icepack, not actually for medical use, but like a cooler ice pack. My plan was to use it paired with a softer pack and have it rest on my back to help keep the soft pack colder longer for POTS treatment. I didn’t even get to try because the ice pack couldn’t handle the freezer. The next brand was very soft, one of those ones with fabric outside AND a fuzzy cover for it. Both with and without the cover it didn’t keep cold for longer than 10 minutes. For $20 I expect things to keep temperature.Third brand has that thin white plastic over the outside, never fully freezes. Has gel stuff inside… one of the two burst almost immediately and had to be tossed, very disappointing to pull your icepack away to realize your towel is saturated in gross sticky gel that smells kind of bad.Fourth brand looks a lot like these, rainbow something… and they just couldn’t stay cold and take forever to freeze. 8 hours in the freezer for 15 minutes of cold. Great for a sports injury maybe, but awful for what I need it for. Even doubling up icepacks and using two at once didn’t help it keep it’s cold much. Not comes perfect remedy. Sturdy, flexible, comes with a fabric cover (though I prefer folding a tea towel around it to let more cold through), have not seen any breaks in it, curved corners on the plastic so it’s not really sharp, and most importantly it will keep it’s cold for an hour. And it’s just a touch bigger than some other brands.I’ve included a photo of perfect remedy next to resters choice (the fabric brand.) They have been out of the freezer long enough for me to write this review and resters choice is already almost to room temp. It’s completely melted. Just sitting there. For 10, 15 minutes. And you can see perfect remedy is still completely frozen. Very satisfied with this purchase, I wish I had tested everything soon enough to return the ones that didn’t work well, but…. I do know I’ll be buying more of these for the super hot summer ahead.

    The warmth that it produces.
I have used it for my right shoulder, surgery. It stays hot for a long time. Especially when it only takes 40 seconds to heat up. The ease of use is the best, put in microwave 40 seconds take out and use. That is it.

    Great to have 2!
After my recent hysterectomy I used these gel packs to ease the pain and discomfort. It so nice to have two of them. While I’m using one, the other is in the freezer. Then when I switch them out, I always have a cold one ready. Great to use for neck, head and back pain as well.

    Be careful, when microwaving it.
It feels quite good on my lower back already! 😀👍👍If you get one of these and you’d want some heating therapy for yourself, microwave it on high for one minute only; if you do it for more than a minute, it might burst. Then, instead of heating therapy, you’ll have a microwave to clean, lol!As you have noticed, you get two of these in one package; so, the other one I just keep in the freezer at all times till I need it.PS: No matter hot or cold, don’t forget to wrap it in a kitchen towel. Happy pain relief to you!
